Hemingway liked the little guy so much that in 1931, when he moved into his now-famous Key West home, he let Snowball run wild, creating a small colony of felines that populated the grounds. Today, some 40 to 50 six-toed descendants of Snowball are still allowed to roam around the house. Polydactyl felines are sometimes called “Hemingway Cats".
10. Robert Downey, Jr
Yep, Iron Man is cat daddy to two rescue cats - Montgomery and Dartanian. Prior to finding the two kittens, the actor says he wasn't too keen on rescues, but now he says he can't imagine life without his fur babies.
11. James Franco
James Franco is cat daddy to two fur babies - Sammy and Zelda. In an interview with Vanity Fair, the 127 Hours star said, "[We] always had cats. We are the strange family where, like, over Christmas, if we all bring home the cats . . . we’d have like eight cats in the house at once, which we found out was illegal in Palo Alto where we grew up. So we’re actually the weird cat family. I have two enormous cats right now. I’m the weird cat guy, and I’ve realized over the years that that is one of the quirkier things about me, but I’ve embraced it. I can’t hide ’em anymore. I want to talk about Tom Franco and cats, that’s it.”
12. Nicolas Cage
Nicolas Cage once took "magic" mushrooms with his pet cat Lewis. Cage told David Letterman, "I remember lying on my bed for hours and Lewis was on the desk across my bed and we just stared at each other for hours - not moving, just staring at each other, and I had no doubt that he was my brother."
